AMALGAMATED SECURITY WINS INTERNATIONAL AWARD
GIS Department Honoured as a Worldwide Leader in Innovation and Business Value Creation

IDG’s CIO magazine announced Amalgamated Security’s Geographic Information Systems Department as a recipient of the 2015 CIO 100 award. The 28th annual award program recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology (IT). “For 28 years now, the CIO 100 awards have honored the innovative use of technology to deliver genuine business value,” said Maryfran Johnson, Editor in Chief of CIO magazine & events. “Our 2015 winners are an outstanding example of the transformative power of IT to drive everything from revenue growth to competitive advantage.”

Amalgamated Security Services Limited (ASSL) developed an extensive Geographic Information System (GIS) enabling the company itself as well as its clients to utilize spatial data to better meet their objectives by supporting critical management decisions. Head of ASSL’s GIS Department, Shane Ragbir, says: “We are proud that our GIS system has become an actual business enabler for the private and public sectors. For example, an increasing number of government agencies use GIS to keep track of properties, public works, roads, and more within their jurisdiction. Police, Fire and other Emergency Services have integrated GIS into their daily operations, for example to forecast and track crime, track and manage their vehicle fleets, and to optimize the dispatch of rapid responses by finding the shortest routes to emergencies. Within the Caribbean private sector, communication technology companies use GIS to plan their utility expansions; real estate agents and bankers to track properties, property values, and tax information; distributors to see where existing and potential markets are and to plot their distribution routes accordingly; companies even use GIS to optimize their marketing. It is amazing how many more applications are possible and we are looking forward to continuously serve the Caribbean region in this regard.”

CIO magazine is the premier content and community resource for information technology executives and leaders worldwide, providing business technology leaders with analysis and insight on information technology trends and a keen understanding of IT’s role in achieving business goals. Representatives from the winning companies will be recognized at the CIO 100 Symposium & Awards Ceremony, to be held on August 11th 2015, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
